Cloudfare down

OpenAI’s ChatGPT is currently unavailable due to an outage at Cloudflare, which is affecting numerous sites worldwide, including X., the social media site.

ChatGPT down: Tens of thousands of people around the world can’t currently use OpenAI’s ChatGPT because of an outage at Cloudflare. Cloudflare is the global cloud network that powers many websites on the internet – and it has a number of issues. That means a host of sites are affected – including ChatGPT and X, the social media site.

The majority of the outage complaints specifically point out ChatGPT failing or not loading midway in a session. According to the breakdown on Downdetector, 90 percent of users complain about problems with ChatGPT. This includes unexpected disconnections, session failures, blank displays, and the inability to give responses.

The platform received 38 complaints at about 3:34 AM, versus a baseline of 15. The chart reveals sharp spikes throughout the day, indicating that such episodes of instability have been repetitive. Instead of individual platform errors, the outage curve shows an abrupt surge indicative of upstream network failures.

OpenAI yet to issue statement

OpenAI has not acknowledged Cloudflare as the source of the outage or issued a comment on it. Users may have more problems until the network stabilizes since the Cloudflare services are still erratic.

“Our support portal provider is currently experiencing issues, and as such customers might encounter errors viewing or responding to support cases.”

More than 11,000 users worldwide reported X outages until 5 PM.

What to Do During an Outage

Patience is key during an outage. Recommended actions include:

  1. Check Official Sources: Monitor OpenAI’s status page and social media (e.g., X/Twitter) for the latest updates.
  2. Steer Clear of Unofficial Info: Avoid rumors and unverified reports from unofficial channels.
  3. Have a Backup Plan: For essential work, consider backup tools or alternative strategies for when ChatGPT is unavailable.

Looking Ahead

Following the resolution of the crisis, OpenAI is expected to provide a detailed post-mortem analysis. Identifying the root cause is crucial for fortifying systems and preventing future issues. Until then, users must wait for service restoration and insights into the cause of the disruption.
