The Toy Story 5 trailer has officially dropped, and it’s bringing Woody, Buzz, and the rest of Bonnie’s toy chest back to the big screen for the first time in seven years. Disney and Pixar’s highly anticipated fifth chapter in the beloved franchise hits theaters exclusively on June 19, 2026 โ just days away โ and the final trailer has given fans the clearest look yet at what’s in store.
Toy Story 5 Trailer Reveals the Real Villain: Technology
The central conflict this time around isn’t a jealous toy or a collectibles-obsessed villain. It’s your kid’s tablet. Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), and Jessie (Joan Cusack) find themselves up against Lilypad, a sleek frog-shaped smart tablet voiced by Greta Lee, who arrives in Bonnie’s room with her own ideas about what playtime should look like and they don’t involve classic toys. The gang has to figure out how to stay relevant in a world where kids are increasingly glued to screens.
It’s a premise that writer and co-director Andrew Stanton has been building toward since the film was first unveiled at the 2024 D23 Expo, where he described wanting to explore the friction between traditional toys and the digital devices muscling them out. The final trailer makes that tension feel urgent and very real.
According to Disney and Pixar’s official synopsis, the film promises “another adventure full of imagination, humor, and connection” – the same qualities that have kept this franchise going for over three decades.
A Fresh Cast Joins the Returning Favorites
Several new voice actors are stepping into Toy Story 5, and the lineup is genuinely surprising. Conan O’Brien voices Smarty Pants, a tech toy whose job is making toilet training entertaining. Craig Robinson (The Office) plays Atlas, a cheerful hippo GPS device who joins the tech-toy side of the conflict. And in a brief but notable appearance, Alan Cumming voices Evil Bullseye – Bullseye’s alter ego during a playtime imagination sequence.
On the returning side, Ernie Hudson is back as Combat Carl, Tony Hale reprises Forky, and young Bonnie now has a new voice actress, Scarlett Spears. A few legacy characters have also been recast following the passing of their original performers: Jeff Bergman steps in as Mr. Potato Head (a role long held by the late Don Rickles), Anna Vocino takes over Mrs. Potato Head, and John Hopkins fills the role of Mr. Pricklepants.
There’s one more addition that turned heads: Taylor Swift will contribute an original song titled “I Knew It, I Knew You” to the film’s soundtrack, announced just two weeks ago.
Tim Allen, who returned as Buzz after years of uncertainty, has spoken openly about the project. He told interviewers that after completing his first recording sessions, he came away convinced the script was genuinely strong โ not a cash-grab, but a story that actually earned its place in the series.
What to Know Before You Go
Toy Story 5 opens in theaters on June 19, 2026, and will be a theatrical exclusive at launch. Audiences who want to revisit the earlier films before heading to the cinema can stream all four previous installments, plus shorts and specials, on Disney+.
The film arrives in the same summer window as several other major releases but is expected to dominate family audiences at the box office, continuing a franchise that has grossed billions since the original Toy Story changed animation back in 1995. Whether Pixar can make old-school toys feel emotionally necessary in the age of smart devices is the question the movie itself is asking, and if the trailer is any indication, they might just pull it off.
