The Sweden Tunisia World Cup 2026 Group F match in Monterrey was a showcase for two of the most exciting forwards in world football right now. Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres both got their names on the scoresheet as Sweden dismantled Tunisia 5-1 to move to the top of Group F, with Graham Potter’s side looking every bit as dangerous as their pre-tournament billing suggested.
Ayari Opens, Isak Dazzles, Gyokeres Finishes the Job
The goals came from all over the pitch. Brighton’s Yasin Ayari scored the pick of the goals with two stunning long-range strikes opening the scoring in the 7th minute and adding a fifth deep in stoppage time with his celebrations muted out of respect for the birthplace of his father and a country he could have represented. Between those bookends, Isak produced a brilliant solo goal in the 30th minute, driving forward from the halfway line before slotting into the bottom-right corner. Omar Rekik halved the deficit for Tunisia just before the break with a glancing header, sparking brief hopes of a comeback that never materialised.
Gyokeres swept in a third to restore the two-goal lead, and substitute Mattias Svanberg scored 18 seconds after coming on as his goal was allowed to stand following a VAR review. The technology in the ball itself detected a faint flick by Isak that played Svanberg onside the kind of marginal call that perfectly illustrated the technological advances of this tournament.
Group F Leaders – But Tougher Tests Await Sweden
The result leaves Sweden sitting pretty at the top of Group F, three points clear of rivals Japan and the Netherlands following their 2-2 draw. Gyokeres and Isak became just the second Swedish strike partnership to assist one another at a World Cup a historic footnote to what was already a landmark evening. Tunisia, whose coach Sabri Lamouchi admitted the magnitude of the defeat was difficult to absorb, face Japan next with their tournament already in the balance.
